This tournament season has started off pretty well! My Weekend Series tournament on Guntersville was pretty difficult but things headed up from there. I was offered to go fish a “wounded warriors on the water” tournament on Wheeler Lake and you talk about an absolute blast. My partner was a 15 year Marine and was flat smoked em. We finished the day in 5th place with over 17lbs of beautiful bronzebacks and big fish. I smoked a 7lb smallie 3rd cast of the morning. That tends to help the situation pretty good lol All of our fish were caught on jerkbaits and Tackle Doctor shaky heads paired up with a Go2bat 4in shaky worm. It was a day I will honestly never forget. We had our 5th place limit by 10am and just continued to pour on the heat the rest of the day. My partner and I had so much fun and it was a friendship made that will last forever. I was thrilled to be able to spend time giving back to those who gave for us. It really ment a lot to me and it did him as well. He was extremely grateful and all the thanks was to be owed to him for sure! Keep all those guys in your prayers as they go through life. I learned that just because they are home “safe and sound” does not mean mean “all is well”. Those guys see a lot and have struggles that will last their lifetime. I appreciate your time soldier, and thank you!!

Well it has been quite some time since I have wrote a blog. My life has been nuts since last year! Everything from living in Oklahoma for a time, to getting married, then back to Alabama and now here we are at a great fishing season ahead of us! I will be fishing the BASS Weekend Series this year as a boater and our 1st tournament is March 9th. Our schedule is pretty wide open
Guntersville 2day- September
I have to give a major shout-out to all the folks who are my current sponsors! Go2bait Company, Tackle doctor spinnerbaits, topwater clothing, lews reels, and Greg’s custom rods. Without these people I couldn’t afford to fish lol They all make great products that I am proud to introduce to guide customers and fellow tournament anglers both! I appreciate you all following me this year. Make sure to join my fan page and get in on the action!
Well its Sunday and I just got out of church. I had an absolutely awesome day of fishing yesterday, talk about a blast! I was sitting at home watching TV Friday and my phone rings, the weekend series event on Weiss Lake needed some anglers and wanted to know if I would be interested in fishing. Well, I never turn down the opportunity to fish a tournament so I told them to sign me up. I honestly didn’t really know what to expect because I haven’t seen Weiss Lake in a year but the Coosa River fishes a lot alike on most of the lakes. So I decided to stick with a Neely Henry pattern and try it on Weiss Lake. Thankfully my grandfather showed me some places a few years ago and we won a tournament there so I had an idea of the general area I would be wanting to go.
The day started off extremely productive and I was able to start culling by 8am and the places I fished with my grandfather were slam loaded with big ol’ fat girl spots! Every single fish I caught was on the Go2Bait 4.5 Shaky Worm in Watermelon Candy color on a Tackle Dr. jig head. I ended up the day in 7th place, not to bad for a “spur of the moment” tournament. A big part of my success was also because of Greg’s Custom Rods , Trilene 100% Fluro, and my Lews Reels It was EXTREMELY windy yesterday and thanks to the sensitivity of Greg’s Rods and the 100% Fluro I was able to stick to my finesse fishing pattern unlike a lot of guys and keep putting fish in the boat! I was also using the high speed Lews Reel so that when them fish hit I could reel the slack out and get a hook in them quick before they dropped my worm. I can’t begin to tell you how vital that was yesterday!
Thanks everyone for all the support and give me a call, lets go chase fat girls together!
Well its finally here! Fishing season has entered wide open mode and I sure hope it does not stop till November at the earliest! I have definitely earned a trophy for all the miles traveled in the last 7 days. It started Thursday when I left on a blazing path towards south Florida to hook up with my buddy Ronnie Seets and his wife to spend a few days chasing them fat girl Florida bass. What was supposed to be a 9-10 hour trip down turned into 14hours, talk about exhausting! Traffic, weather, computer shut downs when I had to get license, ect…were key factors in that. Friday was spent on the Harris Chain of lakes which is an absolutely beautiful fishery! Such an extremely cool place to see and the fishing isn’t bad either! Then Saturday and Sunday we headed down to Okeechobee to try our luck out.
Monday morning I woke up and after a great breakfast headed out to take Mary Lynn home to Alabama. This time it only took 9hrs thankfully, that is a lot better! I arrived back at my house around 10pm Monday night and now as I type this I am in Shreveport, Louisiana working with Wired2Fish. I got into town about 5pm yesterday and we headed out at 6am this morning to see all the guy’s before their final practice day. “Dock Talk” says this classic may be a pretty tough one. Lot’s of different baits were on the decks of boats this morning, everything from frogs to jigs and crankbaits. One quote from Shaw Grigsby was “everything is changing so fast its really hard to tell what’s going to be right tomorrow”. I can imagine that’s a pretty true statement for most of if not all the anglers. The practice day’s have been far from ideal, with rain, cold fronts and muddy water. The weather will be changing the majority of the tournament and as I say,” bass are either going into a transition, in a transition, or coming out of a transition”, and I think that will hold true for this tournament! It will be exciting one for sure!
If you want to keep up with everything this week check out the Wired2Fish Facebook Fan Page. I will be working with these guys all week to bring live updates from the classic. Its going to be super busy and a lot of great info for everyone!
Here are a few pics from the last few days:
First off, I want to say a HUGE thanks for visiting my site! This is the first blog update since the new webdesign and feel free to check out all the links and sign the guestbook. This year has been a fun and exciting year for sure! It started out on Guntersville in Feb. and THANKFULLY still has not ended! I fished the BASS Weekend Series trail this year and had a very average season getting limits in all the regular season tournaments. Come time for our division championship on Guntersville I was ranked 19th for angler of the year and looked like I would easily punch a ticket to the Regional Championship by finishing in the top 40 for angler of the year. Well, as a lot of my friends know….the “Guntersville curse” hit me, as it often does! For some reason that lake “has my number” and its a bad number for sure. I ended up getting a big fat goose egg for two solid day! So all the way home I was absolutely on edge! I didn’t know if I would make the top 40 cut or not since this was a double points tournament. Well, luckily I was able to squeeze in at 38th place and was very excited! I set out the year to make it to that tournament and did so!
The regional championship this year was on the Mobile Delta, I had not ever fished tidal water and due to my school schedule was unable to practice fish. As I pulled up to the boat ramp for our pre-tournament meeting, I seen a dolphin, and obviously I thought to myself “what am I getting into” and said a little prayer. I KNEW my first day on the Delta would be one epic experience but was just happy to be there. After the first day I got a limit which I didn’t think was very much and surprisingly I was in 6th place at the end of the day! I was pretty shocked to say the least, here it is, 1st day on the water and I am in 6th place. So on day 2 I knew I would be staying further south than day 1. Fishing was tough, the wind picked up and I couldn’t get anything going. I was throwing the same baits as day 1 and the fish just was not eating….time passed….and passed….nothing….no bites….finally at 1pm, just 2hrs before weigh-in I started getting pretty shook, here I am, 6th place, and I haven’t got one single fish. “Don’t drop the ball now” was exactly what I was thinking, suddenly I felt something on my spinnerbait, a BLUE CRAB….oh yes that’s when a light bulb as bright as the sun went off in my head, panic mode, beast mode and rockstar mode all kicked in at once lol and as well as a “thank you Lord”. What I had done was stay to close to the saltwater and I wasn’t fishing with their forage, ever heard the term “match the hatch” well I tied on a shrimp imitation bait! 1st two cast I landed stripe, so I knew I was fishing with what they wanted, I went on to land not 1…not 2…but 10!!! Keepers in the last dying moments of the tournament and ended up the day in 6th place! Talk about a train wreck! lol
So, now I am qualified for the National Championship and will be heading to Santee Cooper in South Carolin to fish next week. I will leave on Monday morning, pre-fish Tues, and then the tournament last Wed-Sat with only the top 25 fishing on Saturday. So as you can tell, my tournament season has taken a huge up swing the last couple months and I am greatly looking forward to heading north next week! Thanks for following me and hopefully I will have to GET THE NET!! Next week because I have BIG FISH ON!
Just a quick update on what’s going on right now. I have had a great year! Fishing on Neely has been outstanding no matter what people say! I have heard rumor of “Neely going downhill” Well, the 7+lbr I caught a couple weeks ago sure did not get the notice lol!! I caught it with Alabama Outdoor News magazine crew, that’s amazing to catch such a healthy fish in mid August! Absolutely beautiful fish! So…NO NEELY IS ALIVE AND WELL!!! I am sitting in 19th place on the BASS Weekend Series trail and have the division Championship coming up. FROG WILL BE ON!! Thats a great time of year and I am looing forward to it! If I stay in the top 40, which I have done the “points math” and even if I zero both days I still would probably wake it, then I will be heading to the Regional Championship in Mobile. This will be my 1st one to attend since I have never fished the Weekend Series trail completely though the year. So it will be a fun time! I have got to say the support from sponsors, friends, and family this year has been amazing!! Everyone on my team rocks for sure!
