We finished the day in 5th place with over 17lbs of beautiful bronzebacks and big fish. I smoked a 7lb smallie 3rd cast of the morning. That tends to help the situation pretty good lol All of our fish were caught on jerkbaits and Tackle Doctor shaky heads paired up with a Go2bat 4in shaky worm. It was a day I will honestly never forget. We had our 5th place limit by 10am and just continued to pour on the heat the rest of the day. My partner and I had so much fun and it was a friendship made that will last forever. I was thrilled to be able to spend time giving back to those who gave for us. It really ment a lot to me and it did him as well. He was extremely grateful and all the thanks was to be owed to him for sure! Keep all those guys in your prayers as they go through life. I learned that just because they are home “safe and sound” does not mean mean “all is well”. Those guys see a lot and have struggles that will last their lifetime. I appreciate your time soldier, and thank you!!

Well its Sunday and I just got out of church. I had an absolutely awesome day of fishing yesterday, talk about a blast! I was sitting at home watching TV Friday and my phone rings, the weekend series event on Weiss Lake needed some anglers and wanted to know if I would be interested in fishing. Well, I never turn down the opportunity to fish a tournament so I told them to sign me up. I honestly didn’t really know what to expect because I haven’t seen Weiss Lake in a year but the Coosa River fishes a lot alike on most of the lakes. So I decided to stick with a Neely Henry pattern and try it on Weiss Lake. Thankfully my grandfather showed me some places a few years ago and we won a tournament there so I had an idea of the general area I would be wanting to go.

The day started off extremely productive and I was able to start culling by 8am and the places I fished with my grandfather were slam loaded with big ol’ fat girl spots! Every single fish I caught was on the Go2Bait 4.5 Shaky Worm in Watermelon Candy color on a Tackle Dr. jig head. I ended up the day in 7th place, not to bad for a “spur of the moment” tournament. A big part of my success was also because of Greg’s Custom Rods , Trilene 100% Fluro, and my Lews Reels It was EXTREMELY windy yesterday and thanks to the sensitivity of Greg’s Rods and the 100% Fluro I was able to stick to my finesse fishing pattern unlike a lot of guys and keep putting fish in the boat! I was also using the high speed Lews Reel so that when them fish hit I could reel the slack out and get a hook in them quick before they dropped my worm. I can’t begin to tell you how vital that was yesterday!

Thanks everyone for all the support and give me a call, lets go chase fat girls together!

The patterns have been fairly simple, find grass that is in the water and find largemouth, not much harder than that. Now the lures I have been using well….different than what other people use I will say that and you need to come fish with me to see it in action lol. The spotted bass are moving out towards the river and can be found on points throwing crankbaits. I have caught several here lately in 8-12ft of water on a Strike King squarebill. They are up and feeding on bait fish and will slam that crankbait! Here are a few pictures of fish we have caught here lately, call me to book a trip!

Fishing on the Coosa River has really started to pick up and its picking up fast!!! The water temps are really warming up nicely and the fish I have been catching are super fat! I really think that the water temps never got cold enough to pull the fish out to the main river this year and they have been feeding heavily in preparation for a winter that never showed up. It will be really exciting to see what this years season holds because I can honestly say, there have been more big bass caught in my boat this January/February than ever before. Also, this is the mildest winter I ever remember and I think these two factors really go hand in hand.

The fish I have been targeting have been in creeks thus far and starting to get ready to bed. I have located several places where the surface water temperatures are in the low 60′s which is prime for catching some really big sacks of fish! Right now the evening bite seems to be more “on” than the early morning bite because the water warms up over the evening. I am targeting spawn migrations routes along creek channels. Anywhere a creek channel makes a sharp turn or has a different contour that bass can stop on and feed is where you will find them. Once you locate a school, my recent experience has proven they are hungry and stacked up! I am using crankbaits and jigs to put the big ones in the boat. I am currently working at the bassmaster classic with Wired2Fish, when I get home call me for an awesome trip on Lake Neely Henry. Let’s go chase some fat girls!!

Well its finally here! Fishing season has entered wide open mode and I sure hope it does not stop till November at the earliest! I have definitely earned a trophy for all the miles traveled in the last 7 days. It started Thursday when I left on a blazing path towards south Florida to hook up with my buddy Ronnie Seets and his wife to spend a few days chasing them fat girl Florida bass.

What was supposed to be a 9-10 hour trip down turned into 14hours, talk about exhausting! Traffic, weather, computer shut downs when I had to get license, ect…were key factors in that. Friday was spent on the Harris Chain of lakes which is an absolutely beautiful fishery! Such an extremely cool place to see and the fishing isn’t bad either! Then Saturday and Sunday we headed down to Okeechobee to try our luck out.

Monday morning I woke up and after a great breakfast headed out to take Mary Lynn home to Alabama. This time it only took 9hrs thankfully, that is a lot better! I arrived back at my house around 10pm Monday night and now as I type this I am in Shreveport, Louisiana working with Wired2Fish. I got into town about 5pm yesterday and we headed out at 6am this morning to see all the guy’s before their final practice day. “Dock Talk” says this classic may be a pretty tough one. Lot’s of different baits were on the decks of boats this morning, everything from frogs to jigs and crankbaits. One quote from Shaw Grigsby was “everything is changing so fast its really hard to tell what’s going to be right tomorrow”. I can imagine that’s a pretty true statement for most of if not all the anglers. The practice day’s have been far from ideal, with rain, cold fronts and muddy water. The weather will be changing the majority of the tournament and as I say,” bass are either going into a transition, in a transition, or coming out of a transition”, and I think that will hold true for this tournament! It will be exciting one for sure!

If you want to keep up with everything this week check out the Wired2Fish Facebook Fan Page. I will be working with these guys all week to bring live updates from the classic. Its going to be super busy and a lot of great info for everyone!

The day overall was pretty tough the water temps averaged around 46-49 degrees everywhere we went. We fished shallow, deep, main lake, upriver and down river lol but FINALLY a pattern showed itself in the last hour and we managed a couple. the pattern we found was in the back of creeks with jerkbaits and when I say “back” I am talking about WAY back! Fish were sitting in the bottom of the creek channels around stumps and other cover. I am looking forward to an awesome 2012 and I hope you all have a great year as well! Let’s go fishing!

Well, what can I say other than Neely Henry has hit her stride going into the cold winter months. Finally, we have a solid late Fall, early Winter pattern that has come into play and I expect it to be going full steam till we get into that “nasty cold” weather as I like to call it. Fish are feeding up before the cold and every fish I am catching looks like its about to bust! Right now I am throwing a lot of “reaction” type baits. My main bait over the last week has been a Castaway Crankbait. These baits have a unique action and “wobble” to them that I haven’t seen in a crankbait and I have definitely found a new go to crankbait. When the bite get’s tough, you can pick one of these baits up and the bite isn’t so tough anymore if you know what I mean!

Most fish right now are being caught in water temps around 58 degrees and I am really targeting that 5-7ft range banks. The water level on Neely is really low right now and I believe fish have really had to focus on this type of bank because the water is gone on places they use to hang out. I am throwing the Castaway squarebills on 10lb FluroCarbon with a Lew’s cranking reel and a Greg’s Custom Rod cranking stick. This light line really seems to be the ticket and the Lew’s reel with its super low gear ration keeps you from getting it by them to fast. Fish are still adjusting to the colder temps so things such as rattle traps just seem to be a little too fast right now. When you go out on the water really try to focus on getting the crankbait down to the bottom and just let it “slow roll” off the bottom structure. Still 50% of the time, the strikes are coming right at the boat, which tells me the fish are still a little sluggish but you can be assured as the weather starts to stabilize that will change. These Coosa River spots are like smallmouth, the colder the water, the more feisty they get!

I will be finishing up my college and graduating in a couple weeks, so coming into the new year I am going to be running some specials and discounts on guide trips until I find a “Full-Time” job in the fishing industry. So if you have never been to Neely Henry, or want to get out on the lake and learn some new tips and techniques give me a call! Whatever you want to do, topwater fishing, crankbait fishing, drop-shot, no matter the technique I will find a place for you to do it and hopefully be successful! Make sure to follow me on Facebook for daily updates on the Fan Page! Here are a few pics from the last week:
